Exam results pave the way for exciting futures

Withernsea High School’s Year 11 cohort returned to school for the final time today [Thursday, 22nd August] to collect their GCSE and VTQ (Vocational and Technical Qualifications) results.

Friends and family joined staff and students to celebrate the hard work that has taken place, not just in the previous academic year, but across five dynamic years of high school education, culminating in a solid set of results that have paved the way for progression to exciting first-choice destinations in further education, training or employment.

For many students, a smooth transition to a diverse range of college courses including Criminology, Accountancy, Economics, Land-based Engineering, Hair and Beauty, Motor Vehicle Engineering, E-Sports, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, awaits. These will be studied at a variety of post-16 providers, with places having been secured at destinations including Wilberforce Sixth Form College, Wyke College, Hull College, Bishop Burton College, East Riding College, St Mary’s Sixth Form College and Leeds City College.

A number of students have also been successful in securing apprenticeships in a broad range of in-demand trades including Plastering, Engineering, Electrical work, Joinery, Manufacturing, and Child Care, either directly with local employers or through providers such as HETA (Humberside Engineering and Training Association) and CATCH - an industry-led partnership supporting the process, energy, engineering and renewable industries in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Humber.

Commenting on the success of the school’s 2024 leavers, Headteacher Mark Crofts said: “It was a delight to welcome back our Year 11 students this morning, many with family and friends, to receive their GCSE results. We could sense the anticipation that had built up beforehand for many and this was met with satisfaction, elation and for some, relief!

“It goes without saying that we are immensely proud of what our Year 11 students have achieved over their time at Withernsea High School. It has not always been an easy journey for them, but the manner in which they have tackled the challenges has been impressive and will stand them in good stead for the way ahead. They leave us not just with qualifications to be proud of, but with experiences, skills and the confidence to go on to achieve their goals in life.

“For many of our students, today was an important rite of passage as they leave us with eyes set firmly on their new destinations and their heads set on those new goals. There was much anticipation in the talk about life post-Year 11, and students and parents shared their excitement for the immediate future. We share that excitement with them, and we look forward to hearing of their next steps and future successes. Well done, Year 11!”
