Among those visiting the fair were young people from schools and colleges from around Hull and the East Riding, including a group of Year 10 students from Withernsea High School who are currently studying Health and Social Care.

Viki Foster, Careers Leader at Withernsea High School, said: “For young people who are about to start thinking about what qualifications they need to take in order to pursue a career in healthcare, this event was a fantastic place to start. It helped to put theoretical learning into context and showed the breadth of careers available within the health and social care sector. The students really enjoyed the activities on offer and fully engaged with the representatives who were present. We would like to thank the organisers of the fair and everyone who gave up their time to make it happen.”

The ‘Great Big Health and Care Careers Fayre’, held at Hull’s Doubletree by Hilton hotel, attracted over 600 visitors and was aimed at those thinking about potential careers in health or care settings. From mental health to maternity, health visiting to elderly care, and podiatry to pathology, the event provided a platform for advice, information and interactive experiences which helped participants understand the sector’s various roles in a fun and informative way.

The event, the first large-scale health expo to run in the city since the start of the Covid pandemic, was organised in a joint collaboration between local health and social care providers including the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, Hull University Teaching Hospitals and City Health Care Partnership (CHCP CIC).
